Still accepting submissions

Dated:  2009-02-09
This is the year that I try and get some more outside submissions! I would really like to try and get more sounds on this page other than mine, so if you have anything composed or arranged for brass, make sure and use the contact page to get in touch with me.

Dance on a Theme by Croft

Price: $10.00
Instrumentation: standard brass quintet
A fun, dance-like arrangement of William Croft's "St. Anne," this is another one of those wild-ride type pieces. Lots of mixed meter in this one, but it really moves nicely along. Perfect for almost any occasion!
Level: Advanced

Prelude on Rhosymedre

Price: $10.00
Instrumentation: standard brass quintet
If one arrangement of Rhosymedre wasn't enough, here's another one! This one is, however, a Ralph Vaughan Williams setting that I've adapted for brass. From his famous "Three Preludes on Welsh Hymn Tunes," I took special delight in making this work for the brass quintet. This is a very smooth piece that doesn't get too loud--a beautiful piece for any occasion.
Level: Medium

Sheep May Safely Graze

Price: $11.00
Instrumentation: standard brass quintet
This is one of Bach's most beloved arias from his "Hunting Cantata." Originally for voice, this has been transcribed for brass quintet featuring horn. This is a "long blow" without much rest (about 4 minutes) for all the instruments, but it's a beautiful piece of music that lends itself to brass quite nicely. A definite must-have for those serious about expanding their repertoire!

Oh No! Susanna!

Price: $11.00
Instrumentation: standard brass quintet
A fun setting of an old American folk song, "Oh No! Susanna!" is the hardest piece we have in our catalog right now. Trumpets get a technical workout, and lots of off-beats and syncopated rhythms in the inner voices. Sorry tubists, you get lots of "oom-pah" on this one. Perfect for a set closer or an encore, "Oh No! Susanna" will take you on a wild ride in just 2 1/2 minutes.
Level: Advanced plus!

Beach Spring

Price: $12.00
Instrumentation: standard brass quintet
Regardless of one's religious affiliation, it's hard to dispute that some of the most memorable tunes come from American hymnody. This arrangement of "Beach Spring" explores a variety of settings of this tune in a non-intrusive, non-jarring sort of way. The tempo remains constant throughout (save for fermatas and ritards). Of course, the fun part comes in the few bars where the arrangement combines 5 different hymn tunes all at once: Old Hundredth (tuba), Amazing Grace (trumpet 2), Beach Spring (trombone), Jesus Loves Me (horn), and Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing (trumpet 1). Great for any setting, this arrangement of "Beach Spring" will be a lovely addition to any brass quintet's set list.

Voluntary on the Doxology, Old Hundredth

Price: $10.00
Instrumentation: standard brass quintet
This is a transcription of Purcell's "Voluntary on the Doxology, Old Hundredth," originally for solo organ. I've never been able to find a brass quintet arrangement of this piece. Taken from E. Power Biggs' definitive edition, you can be sure that this is a note-for-note accurate brass edition of this old favorite.
Level: Medium

Loch Lomond

Price: $12.00
Instrumentation: standard brass quintet
This arrangement of "Loch Lomond" is perfect for ensembles needing more slow-paced, widely- recognizable tunes. Just because it's slow-paced doesn't mean it's easy! Trumpet ranges go up to high B, and all instruments are expected to play lyrically, as they all have an opportunity to play the melody.
Level: Medium-Advanced

Variations on Rhosymedre

Price: $13.00
Instrumentation: standard brass quintet
Not for the faint-of-heart! This piece is very satisfying to listen to, but rather difficult to play. With notes extending to high C in the trumpets, hemiolas, mixed meters, and several technical passages, this is recommended for semi-professional and professional brass quintets only. Although "Rhosymedre" is a hymn tune, this piece is appropriate for virtually any setting in which a brass quintet would perform. Its varied movements and colorful settings make for a nice closing/encore piece.

That said, I feel that this is my best contribution to the brass quintet repertoire, and certainly this is something that would make a nice addition to a brass quintet's library.

Arirang

Price: $12.00
Instrumentation: recorder (optional), trumpet, organ
The unforgettable tune "Arirang," a.k.a. "The Korean Folk Song" has long been a favorite since John Barnes Chance's arrangement for wind band in 1967. "Arirang" lets the organist show off some of the more subtle registrations that he/she may not normally have a chance to show. With fresh, new harmonies and dance-like mixed meters, this arrangement will become a favorite alternative in the trumpet/organ repertoire.

Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken

Price: $15.00
Instrumentation: trumpet, horn, organ, choir, timpani
This arrangement of Haydn's hymn tune "Austria" was commissioned on June 25th, 2006 by St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Portland, Oregon.

It features trumpet and horn throughout, as well as the organ. "Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken" is a piece that audience and performers alike will love; it can be used as an Offertory anthem or any anthem during a special occasion or feast day.
Level: Medium-Advanced

Variations on 'For All the Saints'

Our largest piece

This arrangement of "For All the Saints" was commissioned on November 6th, 2005 by First Congregational United Church of Christ in Portland, Oregon
Price: $20.00
Instrumentation: two trumpets, trombone, tuba, organ, mixed choir, timpani (optional), snare drum (optional), triangle (optional), and tubular bells (optional)
The hymn often played on All Saints' Day, this arrangement of Ralph Vaughan Williams' hymn tune "Sine Nomine" is perfect for the celebratory nature of this occasion. Written in a theme and variation format, this piece features the brass quartet, but there are many moments for the organist and choir to shine. The exhilarating finale alone will animate even the most statuesque of congregations!

This arrangement of "For All the Saints" can be played with only brass, organ, and choir, but the percussion adds so much more!
